HONOLULU (AP) — Search efforts continued Tuesday for a helicopter that went missing northwest of Molokai with two people aboard.
Debris was found in the water. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified of the suspected downed helicopter Monday evening.
The Coast Guard in a release said there were two people on board the Robinson R44 four-seat private helicopter.
Officials said it’s thought the helicopter was on a day trip to Molokai, and was heading back to Honolulu when it lost communications with the Honolulu tower earlier Monday evening.
Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Amanda Levasseur told the Associated Press that the search is being conducted with an airplane, cutter and helicopter. The Molokai Fire Department has a helicopter involved, and ground crews also are searching the coast.
