The Hawaii Hammerheads were supposed to open the inaugural Oceania Basketball Association against Solomon Islands on Oct. 14-15 at Hilo Civic, but the fledgling organization has apparently flaked out for a third time.

The weekend series didn’t happen, and Hammerheads president and coach Kevin Williams couldn’t be reached for comment. An email sent to an address previously used by team officials wasn’t returned as of press time.
The team’s website, hihawaiihammerheads.com, is still up and running and lists the team roster but no schedule.
The league website, officialoba.com, lists six teams (Hawaii, Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands), but no schedule.
This is the third time the pro organization has publicly released plans to move forward with a season only to delay or cancel play without notice.
Waiakea looking for coaches
Waiakea High is accepting applications for the following coaching positions: Head coach for boys and girls track, 2017-18 season; head coach for football, 2018-19 season; head coach for boys and girls air riflery, 2018-19 season.
Applications can be picked up from the school’s main office during business hours. Head coaches are responsible to assemble their JV and Varsity coaching staff with the approval of the Waiakea administration. Head coaches are also responsible to organize and run an offseason training program.
Deadline for applications is Nov. 7 by 3:30 p.m. For more information, call athletic director Tom Correa at 974 4830.
Hayashi gets alternate spot
Hilo Muni’s Kevin Hayashi will be the Aloha Section PGA’s first alternate to the 2018 Sony Open after winning a playoff hole.
Hayashi shot a 3-over-par 75 to finish with a 149 two-round total, six shots behind Makena Beach’s Eric Dugas.
Rough day for Vuls at Otter invite
UH-Hilo’s Jared Kinoshita posted scores of 77 and 74 in the second and third rounds to finish with a 5-over 221 total, tying for 22nd place.
Fellow Vulcans Taylor Patrick and Ryan Roodzant were both 13 shots behind Kinoshita at 18 over.
UHH finished in last place at 69 over with a 933 total. CSU Monterey Bay won with an 8-over 856 total.
UHH free tennis clinic
UHH will offer a free tennis clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at the UHH tennis courts.
It is open to tennis players and adults of all ages. Registration is limited to the first 60 participants.

A Chevrolet Youth Soccer Clinic will be held from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 1 at Wong Stadium.
Sponsored by the county instruction will be provided by UK Elite staff, and registration is available at www.chevrolet.com/youthsports.
Each child must have a completed waiver to participate.
