The Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of East Hawaii will host its first Mai Tai Masquerade Ball fundraiser from 5:30-10 p.m. Oct. 27 at Nani Mau Gardens.

Proceeds from the evening of mai tais, pupus, entertainment and silent auction will support the nonprofit FCJCEH, which was formed in 1990 to meet the needs of abused children.

The Masquerade Ball will benefit the Friends’ Special Needs and Enhancements Program, which provides items and services for abused and neglected children in the East Hawaii community.

In 2016, the Friends received more than 1,300 requests for assistance and serviced 663 children who were abused.

“We continue to notice that lack of employment, substance abuse and domestic violence impact family situations, which in turn leads to reported child abuse — and reports of parents being unable to provide basic needs for their children,” said Julie Cox, Friends board vice president.

“With the help of community partner donations, the Friends are able to provide abused children clothing, hygiene items, educational tools, extracurricular activities and any other item or service the child may need to be successful,” she said. “Our goal is to expand our community outreach and service more children.”

Tickets to ball are $55 and include two complementary mai tais served by celebrity bartenders.
