Current, former and prospective members as well as other interested people are invited to join the League of Women Voters of Hawaii County to hear state Sen. Josh Green speak at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at the Bamboo Hale on the Hawaii Community College campus.

The LWVHC meeting starts with registration at 10 a.m., a welcome and call to order for the general meeting at 10:30 a.m. and Green’s talk, “Health Care and Life in Hawaii,” at 11 a.m. A no-host luncheon follows his talk about noon.

Green is a doctor who has spent his professional life caring for Hawaii Island families. From 2004-08, Green served in the state House representing District 6 (Kona, Holuloa, Kalaoa, Honokohau) and was chairman of the Health Committee, where he worked to bring health care to everyone in the state.

Since 2008, Green has served in the state Senate representing District 3 (Kona and Ka‘u). As chairman of the Human Services Committee, he has worked to pass new laws that strengthen and support Hawaii families, including universal health care for keiki, guaranteed insurance coverage for Hawaii’s autistic children, stronger protections for victims of sexual assault and new programs to reduce maternal mortality.

Green continues to work as an emergency room doctor on weekends and recently announced his candidacy for lieutenant governor in 2018.

The Bamboo Hale is located at 1175 Manono St. in Hilo. The cost for lunch is $10, payable by cash or check to LWVHC at the door. For reservations, contact Rosemarie Muller by Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 631-294-0021 or rcmuller27@hotmail.com.
