Masayuki Kai, 93, of Hilo (formerly of Pahala) died Oct. 2 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. He was a retired supervisor with the former Ka‘u Sugar Company, self-employed farmer, member of Pahala Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, U.S. Army World War II veteran, Company H, 442nd Infantry Regiment, and Bronze Star recipient.
