Bazaar to benefit Honomu mission
The community is invited to support Honomu Henjoji Mission during its annual bazaar and rummage sale from 7:30 a.m.-noon Saturday at 28-1668 Old Mamalahoa Highway.
For those craving ono food there will be baked goods, produce, maki sushi, nishime, chili and Spam musubi. Bargain hunters will find clothing, household items, plants, crafts, books and other miscellaneous treasures.
Anyone who would like to donate new or old items in good condition is asked to call 963-6308 to set up a time for drop-off or pickup.
Public invited to author readings
The Hawaii Writers Guild will present an evening of original readings by island authors from 5:30-7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Thelma Parker Libraryin Waimea.
The guild is an independent association of professional writers engaged in the promotion of literacy and cultural enrichment. It presents Lit Nite, an evening of stories and poetry, on the first Wednesday of every month. The readings are free and open to the public.

Walk or run to promote literacy
Friends of the Library-Waikoloa Region is hosting its eighth annual fundraising 5K Walk/Run for Literacy at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School.
The morning of healthy fun also includes a health fair, silent auction and quilt drawing. All proceeds support FL-WR’s efforts to promote literacy in schools and beyond and to build Waikoloa’s first public library.
The walk/run starts and ends at Waikoloa School. Advance registration is $20 per person, $10 for keiki, and includes a T-shirt. The fee is $30 race day. Strollers are welcome at no additional charge. To sign up or for more information and a course map, visit www.flwr-runforliteracy.com.
Japanese chamber relaunches website
The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hawaii has launched a newly redesigned website, www.jccih.org, which includes a complete member directory.
The redesign aims to provide website visitors with a quality content experience and increase member access to chamber information. The site also is optimized for use across numerous devices, including smartphones, tablets and desktops.
