The Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens invites photographers to enter images in the second annual Queen Lili‘uokalani Gardens 2018 Calendar photo contest.

The contest observes the centennial of Lili’uokalani Gardens in Hilo with the theme “Celebrating the Beauty of Lili‘uokalani Gardens.” Selected photographs of the gardens and surrounding area will be featured in the calendar.

There is no entry fee. Proceeds from calendar sales help fund the work of Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens to improve and beautify the park.

The photographer whose image is chosen for the calendar cover will receive a free flight on Paradise Helicopters with Bruce Omori and Mick Kalber, award-winning volcano photographers. Last year’s winner was Kenneth W. Jackson, whose image was titled “Angel Crossing.”

New work is encouraged. Images accepted last year are not eligible. A photo credit will appear with each selected calendar image. Photographers featured in the calendar will receive two free calendars for full page or a free calendar for side image.

Photographers whose images are selected for inclusion in the calendar will be asked to provide a full resolution file for printing and a signed release that grants the Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens onetime use of the image in the 2018 calendar and any current or future use for promotion of calendar.

Photographers retain all rights to their images.

The entries will be selected by professional photographer Charles Wood, a commercial photographer with more than 30 years in the field.

The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Nov. 10. The calendar will be printed by Dec. 8. Images should be JPEG sized to 2,000 pixels on the longest side. Name the image file with the name of your entry and your initials (example: Title_of_your_work _HL.jpg).
