Police are investigating an attempted murder in the Ainaloa subdivision after a man says an intruder shot at him and caused an explosion that set the home ablaze.
Police are investigating an attempted murder in the Ainaloa subdivision after a man says an intruder shot at him and caused an explosion that set the home ablaze.
The incident was reported at 7:03 p.m. Tuesday when police and fire fighters were notified of a structure fire on Rainbow Drive.
According to police, a 35-year-old man said he returned home to find an unidentified intruder. He told police the intruder shot at him before fleeing on foot.
“Shortly thereafter, the victim heard an explosion on the outside of the house that set the structure on fire,” police said in a press release.
The Hawaii Fire Department said in a press release that about half the structure was on fire when crews arrived. The fire was extinguished.
There were no injuries, according to police.
The cause of the fire and events leading up to the incident remain under investigation, police said.
