Hawaii Pacific University is launching in fall 2018 the Holomua Commitment scholarship program which will match unmet need for first-year students from Hawaii.
Unmet need is the gap between a family’s Expected Family Contribution and the regular HPU tuition rate. It would be met under the program via a combination of federal grants (if applicable), institutional scholarship and/or grants and federal student loan eligibility, in some instances.
About 32 HPU students are from Hawaii Island. The private Oahu university has about 5,000 graduate and undergraduate students in all.
To qualify for Holomua Commitment, a student must be a full-time freshman entering in fall 2018 and be a legal resident of the state.
