During the week of Oct. 23-29, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for DUI.
Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. Three were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 15; South Kohala, five; Puna, four; and South Hilo, one.
So far this year, there have been 960 DUI arrests compared with 906 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent.
There have been 1,129 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,172 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.7 percent.
To date, there have been 28 official traffic fatalities compared with 25 at the same time last year, an increase of 12 percent. There also have been four vehicle-related deaths police don’t count toward the official total because two occurred on private property and two in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
