Pac-12 accolade for former ’Rider Hungalu
Oregon State senior Manase Hungalu, the BIIF Defensive Player of the Year as a senior at Kealakehe in 2012, was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Hungalu, a 6-foot-1, 238-pound inside linebacker from Kailua-Kona, recorded a career-high 20 tackles in a 37-23 loss to California on Saturday.
The 20 tackles in a game are the fourth-most in an NCAA FBS game this year and the fourth-most by a Beavers player in school history.
His 13 solo tackles are also the third-most in the NCAA FBS this season.
Hungalu is averaging nine tackles a game this season and is one of three players in the Pac-12 ranking in the top 20 in tackles, passes defended and interceptions per game.
This is the first Pac-12 player of the week honor for Hungalu and the first for an Oregon State player in a conference game since 2013.
Boxing on Saturday
The Yeshua Boxing Club will be hosting a USA Boxing/LBC-sanctioned boxing event at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Boxers from the Big Island as well as other clubs from across the state will be competing.
The event will be held at the Yeshua Outreach Center gym located on the corner of Pohaku Circle and Pahoa Highway in Keaau (halfway between Kaloli and Paradise avenues).
Yeshua-hosted boxing events typically attract 600-800 in attendance, in a safe, family environment, according to a release.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for ages 11-17, with children under 10 free.
Families are welcome and food concessions will be provided.
All proceeds go directly to Yeshua Outreach Center, Inc., serving more than 200 Puna community youth per week.

Clinics in Pahoa
There will be a winter sports ohana fun day Nov. 18 featuring basketball and wrestling clinics for ages 5-18 at Pahoa regional gym.
Registration runs 7-11 a.m. with the basketball clinic going from 9-12 p.m. and the wrestling clinic from 1-4 p.m.
All participants 17 and younger must have a parent or legal guardian consent to participate and 18-year-olds must have a current medical insurance card.

Fro Hawaii is holding a biddy basketball camp for ages 5-8 and beginning 9-year-olds from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at Papaikou Gym.
