During the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 5, police arrested 18 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. One was younger than 21.
Numbers of arrests by district were: Puna, six; Kona, six; South Hilo, five; and South Kohala, one.
So far this year, there have been 978 DUI arrests compared with 927 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.5 percent.
There have been 1,146 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,211 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.4 percent.
There have been 28 official traffic fatalities so far this year, the same as for this time last year. There also have been four fatalities police don’t count toward the official total because two occurred on private property and two others in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
