Flames come from Hawaiian Airlines plane in Seattle

SEATTLE (AP) — A Hawaiian Airlines plane landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport had flames coming from one of its engines.

The aircraft was landing at about 9 p.m. Tuesday and air traffic control noticed a fire in the left engine, said airport spokesman Perry Cooper.

Cooper said the pilots were notified and the fire was extinguished as the landing occurred.

Jason Grisham was waiting for his flight when he heard a noise that sounded like tires popping. “Then all of a sudden the fire ignited and started shooting out,” he said in a Twitter message.

Video that Grisham posted to Twitter showed the flames flaring from the plane as it rolled across the tarmac.

The flight was a ferry with just crew and no passengers. It was being moved from Paine Field in Everett, Wash., to the Seattle airport.

When the Port of Seattle Fire Department arrived the fire was already out, Cooper said.

The aircraft was towed to a hangar for an investigation.

Hawaiian Telcom stakeholders approve sale

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaiian Telcom’s shareholders approved a $650 million cash-and-stock sale to Cincinnati Bell.

The two telephone companies expect the deal to close in the second half of 2018.

The transaction still requires regulatory approvals from the Federal Communications Commission and the state Public Utilities Commission and Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

The deal already cleared the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act review period with the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice.

The agreement also stipulates Hawaiian Telcom would continue to operate under the same name and maintain its local management and branding.

Upon completion of the deal, Hawaiian Telcom shareholders will own about 15 percent of the combined company and Cincinnati Bell shareholders approximately 85 percent.
