UH-Hilo senior Ryley Callaghan was named the PacWest player of the week for men’s basketball.
The point guard, from Port Orchard, Wash., played a key role in the Vulcans’ 80-76 win over No. 19 Western Washington, scoring a team-high 31 points. Callaghan scored 25 points in the second half and made two free throws in the final seconds to clinch the victory.
He made 6 of 8 from 3-point territory and added five rebounds and four assists. In UHH’s 87-75 loss to Simon Fraser the previous night, Callaghan had 13 points and four assists.
The Vuls were one of two PacWest teams to defeat opponents ranked in the Top 25.
