Pedro Kuuipo Kaawaloa Sr., 68, of Pahoa died Nov. 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ka‘u, he was a retired stonemason, former county lifeguard at Kaimu and Drainpipe beaches in Kalapana, bodybuilder, maile grower, co-founder of Puna Canoe Club and U.S. Army veteran during Vietnam War. Daniel Olav Te‘o-Nesheim, 30, of Waimea died Oct. 29. Born in Pago Pago, American Samoa, he was head football coach and a dormitory parent at his alma mater, Hawaii Preparatory Academy, and former defensive end for the University of Washington Huskies who played four years in the National Football League, three for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one for the Philadelphia Eagles.
