Hilo has been named among the “20 best places for snowbirds this winter” by the travel site Expedia.
Expedia selected places that have “pleasing spring-like temperatures,” outdoor attractions and activities and “their own unique allure.”
Expedia said Hilo is known for its “eternal summer” where “the winters are so warm that a dip in the Pacific actually sounds refreshing even in January.”
“We know we don’t need to twist your arm into visiting a paradise such as this, but winter is especially magical, as you can snorkel at lava-surrounded Four Mile Beach, while your friends are shoveling their driveways back at home,” Expedia said.
The site recommends visitors stop by the Hilo Farmers Market and visit Wailuku River State Park.
Lihue on Kauai was the only other Hawaii place to make the list.
