Howard “Dewain” Allen, 63, of Honalo died Nov. 27 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Tacoma, Wash., he was owner of Beards of Paradise, a stone mason, truck driver and painter. Schayle Kigen Napua Hanato-Wells, 29, of Honalo died Nov. 8 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was disabled but was a laborer at 4 Napua’s Auto Upholstery, farmer at Y.M. Hanato’s farm (Kigen’s Farm), McDonald’s employee, fiberglass installer, laborer at Mother Earth Father Time Tree Trimming Co., participant of Special Olympics, member of the Brain Injury Group, Hawaii Neurotrauma Group, Consumer Union Safe Patient Project, MITSS (Medically Induced Trauma Support Services), Daifukuji Soto Mission, Lifewater Church Healing prayer group, Department of Vocational Rehab, Arc of Kona, and volunteered for the elderly, physically and mentally handicapped. Dr. Carolyn Marie Koneck, 70, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 8. Born in Chicago, she was a practicing psychologist, former case manager for Kona’s homeless and mental health population, member of P.E.O. International, a philanthropy organization promoting educational opportunities for women, and served St. Michael’s Catholic Church as a youth group leader, choir member and Eucharistic minister.
