$1M bail set for man charged in housekeeper killing
HONOLULU (AP) — Bail was set at $1 million for a man charged with murder in the slaying of a part-time housekeeper at a vacation rental house in Honolulu.
Stephan Brown, 23, and his 20-year-old girlfriend Hailey Dandurand are charged with second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Telma Boinville.
Dandurand’s bail was set at $500,000.
Neither made a statement while in court Monday.
Boinville was found dead Thursday inside the North Shore house. The native of Brazil worked as a substitute teacher at Sunset Elementary School and cleaned houses to supplement her income. Her 8-year-old daughter was found tied up in a different part of the house, police said.
Boinville’s vehicle was missing from the scene when officers arrived. It was spotted in a Mililani parking lot. Brown and Dandurand were arrested nearby, police said.
Brown also is charged with first-degree burglary and kidnapping and has two outstanding warrants. Dandurand also is charged with first-degree burglary, kidnapping and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for today.
Retired married couple died in plane crash
HONOLULU (AP) — The two people who died in a plane crash on Molokai have been identified.
Family members of William F. Vogt, 78, and Lynn Vogt, 74, said the married couple died in the crash Sunday.
William Vogt was a retired Honolulu dentist. He and Lynn Vogt were living on Molokai.
Toni Mata, who worked for William Vogt, said he was an avid pilot who loved to fly his Cessna 206. He had a private pilot’s license.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said the propeller plane crashed “under unknown circumstances” while en route to the Molokai Airport.
Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said inspectors traveled to Molokai on Tuesday to investigate the wreckage.
