Wesley “Chief” Kahakua, 58, of Hilo died Dec. 22 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was an employee of University of Hawaii at Hilo Auxiliary Services and Big Island Candies and a past member of Hilo Jaycees, United Public Workers and American Red Cross. Visitation 6-7 p.m. Friday (Dec. 29) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Memorial service at 7 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Memorial donations to Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, HI 96720. Survived by sisters, Laurine (Lionel) Carvalho of Volcano and Maurine Pineau of Maui; brothers, Jeff (Kam) Kahakua of Kona and Steve (Grace) Kahakua of Guam; a nephew, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, uncles, aunts and cousins.
