The new award-winning National Geographic documentary film “Jane” will be presented free of charge to the public at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Honokaa People’s Theatre.
The film is taken from 100 hours of previously unseen footage of Jane Goodall in her studies of chimpanzees in the wild in Africa in the 1960s.
Goodall, a young and untrained woman, challenged the male-dominated scientific consensus of her time with her chimpanzee research and revolutionized people’s understanding of the natural world.
The film’s writer and director, Brett Morgen, will be present for an introduction, discussion and questions.
The film has won the Critic’s Choice award for Best Documentary of 2017 and is considered the front-runner for the Oscar for Best Documentary. “Jane” also received 99 percent favorable reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
The film predominantly is narrated by Goodall and is being shown in her travels as United Nations messenger for peace. The documentary is rated PG.
