Nalu Kahapea scored 19 points Tuesday night, and Kamehameha went into one of the BIIF’s top lion’s dens and came away unscathed, defeating Konawaena 58-52 in battle of Division I boys basketball contenders in Kealakekua.

Kaupena Yasso added 12 points for the Warriors (3-0), who took a 38-36 lead into the fourth quarter.

Hau’oli Akau led the Wildcats (2-1) with 17 points and Bronson Rivera added 13.

Keaau 53, Ka’u 42: Rico Handy scored 15 in Pahala and Gabriel Bergen added 10 as the Cougars got off to a fast start to improve to 3-1.

Andre Carvalho scored 13 for the Trojans (0-3), who trailed 22-7 after the first quarter.

Honokaa 67, Hilo 55: The Dragons (1-1) prevailed at home, handing the Vikings (2-1) their first loss.

Kealakehe 69, Kohala 34: The Waveriders won at home, leaving both teams’ records at 1-1.

Keaau 58, Hawaii Prep 34: Destynee Williams led the way with 18 points and added 12 as the Cougars (2-3) won in Waimea.

Megan Jarrell led Ka Makani (0-4) with 16 points and Mikaela Chong had 12.
