KAILUA-KONA — The all-clear was given at Costco in Kailua-Kona on Wednesday after a brief emergency inspection.

The store was evacuated around 9:20 a.m., before its 10 a.m. opening, because of a possible hazardous materials situation.

A Hawaii Fire Department official said initial reports indicated there was a possible Freon leak.

Company 21, which houses the department’s hazardous materials team, tested the air and declared the scene safe about 9:40 a.m.
