Photographer and film industry professional Valerie Kim will present a wide range of her work during the next Hilo Photography Club meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kamana Senior Center.
Kim’s photography embraces the simplicity and elegance of the Hawaiian traditions with which she was raised, while it captures the essence of the personalities and objects that are the subjects of her photography. Kim grew up in Kahaluu, Oahu, lived and worked in Los Angeles, and now resides in Paauilo.
Kim has worked as a location manager on feature films “The Hulk,” “The Tempest” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series. She also wrote and directed “Waging Peace,” a documentary film about Soviet and American children who, struggling against situation and prejudice, become staunch friends at the end of the Cold War.
At one time she also worked in psychiatric counseling at Castle Hospital and The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, and received her master’s degree in public health at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The second half of the evening program will be presented by club member Steven Godzsak, who will share images captured this past fall in New England and Maine’s Acadia National Park.
The Kamana Senior Center is located at 127 Kamana St. in Hilo. The public is invited and admission is free. Light refreshments will be served at intermission.
The Hilo Photography Club membership includes photographers ranging from beginner to professional. Photographers of all ages and experience levels are welcome.
