Big Island residents are warned of possibly loud military activity at Pohakuloa Training Area as the military conducts helicopter drills through February.
Helicopter gunnery training will carry on at the training area until Feb. 28, according to a schedule from the U.S. Army.
The Army and Marines will carry out the training at various points. The Army will conduct exercises until Monday (Jan. 22) and Feb. 16-17, while the Marines will conduct exercises Tuesday and Wednesday (Jan. 23-24), Jan. 26-28 and Feb. 5-28.
In addition to the helicopter exercises, the Army will conduct parachute drops Wednesday through Thursday (Jan. 23-25) and mounted gunnery drills Feb. 4-15.
The exercises, while loud, are “critical to ensure that military units and service members are ready to accomplish their mission and return home safely,” according to a press release.
