Kiarra Lincoln hit a grand slam in the UH-Hilo softball team’s 12-6 win over Western New Mexico, and Isabelle Mejia clubbed a grand slam in an 11-3 win over Fort Lewis on Friday in St. George, Utah.
In the 12-6 win, Lincoln finished 1 for 5 with five RBIs.
Mejia went five innings for the win. She allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks.
Skylar Thomas went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In the 11-3 win, Mejia batted 2 for 3 with four RBIs.
Lincoln was 2 for 3 with two runs scored while Thomas was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Cyanne Fernandez (6-0) pitched five innings for the win. She allowed three runs on six hits and two walks and struck out nine for the Vuls (8-3).
BIIF track and field help
The BIIF is looking for track and field officials and will hold a clinic/workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium.
Two guests from the National Federation High School will explain rules. Participation may lead to becoming a NFHS certified official.

Waiakea golf tourney on tap
The Friends of Waiakea Golf will be hosting the 2018 Waiakea High School Golf Scramble at 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
Entry fee for the two-person scramble is $200, which includes green fees, golf cart, pupus, bento and dessert. Deadline is Feb. 17.
The scramble is a fundraiser for the boys and girls golf teams and subsidizes the high school golf expenses for season events and state tournaments. There is a $10,000 hole-in-one prize on a par 3.

Big Island Invitational
The 36-hole Big Island Invitational Pro-Am and Golf Tournament will be held March 9-11 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
Entry fee for Aloha Section affiliated pros is $225, for non-affiliated pros $275 and amateurs (handicap 0-7) is $175. Professionals will play for a purse of $14,000 while the championship flight will play for merchandise certificates totaling $3,500. There will be a small purse for seniors, who are allowed to double dip.
Deadline is Feb. 23.
