The Pahoa man charged with allegedly shooting a police officer appeared in court again Wednesday.
Albert Puu, 65, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and six lesser charges after an armed standoff last week, during which Puna police officer Roger Carvalho was shot in the thigh.
Although Puu was scheduled to appear Wednesday for a preliminary hearing, no such hearing occurred.
Puu’s attorney, Brian De Lima — replacing previous attorney Austin Hsu, who recused himself from the case Monday because of a conflict of interest — admitted he had not had enough time to properly review the case.
De Lima said Puu was willing to waive his right to have a preliminary hearing within 48 hours of his initial appearance and moved to reschedule the hearing for March 29. Judge Harry Freitas approved De Lima’s motion.
Puu remains in jail on $515,500 bail.
