A flood advisory is in effect for Hawaii Island until 5:15 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu reported at 2:21 p.m. heavy rainfall was falling over Puna and Ka’u. The heaviest rainfall was falling over Mountain View and Hawaiian Acres at a rate of 3 to 4 inches per hour. Rainfall was spreading eastward toward Ainaloa and Pahoa and additional rainfall was developing to the west.
The advisory covers Hilo, Volcano, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland Estates, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Glenwood, Pepeekeo, Keaau, Pahoa, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Mountain View and Papaikou.
Residents are advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.
