Pahoa High and Intermediate School was put on a brief lockdown Monday morning after two students reportedly got into an altercation.

Derek Inoshita, spokesman for the state Department of Education, said the students who were fighting were escorted to the parking lot area to be sent home. He said when their family members arrived to pick them up, the family members “started to get into it with each other.”

Inoshita said the police were called, and the school was put on lockdown from about 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. to prevent other students from being exposed to the scene.

Inoshita said “there was no security issue,” and no letter was sent home with students. Police said no one was arrested.
