Fire damages Ainaloa home

A fire damaged about 40 percent of what Hawaii Fire Department officials called a “single-story open-air residence” on Monday in Ainaloa Subdivision in Puna.

According to a written statement, no one was home at the Bamboo Drive residence when the department received the alarm at 5:31 p.m.

Eight units responded, with the first arriving on scene at 5:46 p.m. The fire was reported under control at 5:50 p.m. and extinguished at 6:10 p.m.

No other homes in the area were threatened.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
