The Hawaii Fire Department ended its search for a Canadian man who went missing at Champagne Pond in Kapoho earlier this week, having found no sign of him.
Logan Whitfield, a 31-year-old visitor from Canada, went missing Sunday evening while walking to Champagne Pond. After a search by the Fire Department later that evening, a wider search involving the fire and police personnel and the U.S. Coast Guard began Monday, covering more than 400 square miles.
The Coast Guard suspended its search efforts after Tuesday, and HFD Battalion Chief Matthias Kusch said Wednesday would be the last day of the search, unless any new evidence of Whitfield’s whereabouts was discovered.
“There’s been no sign of anything,” Kusch said. “There’s been no new credible information since the initial report.”
Whitfield is described as white, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 180 pounds with short brown hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing black swim trunks, a black T-shirt, water shoes and a snorkel.
