Fire units dispatched to a brush fire late Wednesday night in Waiakea Uka also discovered a structure fire in an abandoned Hoaka Road home.
Seven units responded to the 10:06 p.m. alarm with the first unit on scene 11 minutes later. The fire was reported under control at 10:22 p.m. and extinguished at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
No one was in the home, which was described in a written Fire Department statement as having “many windows … boarded up with plywood.”
Traffic was diverted from Hoaka Road to Malaai Road.
Property damage is estimated at $40,000 with about $120,000 in property value saved.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
