A 29-year-old Pahoa man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly burglarizing a home in Leilani Estates during the ongoing eruption.
According to police, a 66-year-old man and an acquaintance arrived at his home on Moku Street to retrieve personal belongings, and found Alexandru Stingu-Dragomir exiting his home with keys in his possession taken from a home office.
Police say the homeowner and his acquaintance then took Stingu-Dragomir to a police checkpoint at Highway 130 and Leilani Avenue, where he was arrested without incident.
Detectives have linked the suspect to a separate Leilani burglary and are continuing the investigation.
The subdivision is covered by an emergency proclamation from Mayor Harry Kim, and the crime is classified as a Class A felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
