Mayor Harry Kim was diagnosed Friday with a relapse of pneumonia after being taken to the Hilo Medical Center emergency room.
According to a press release from the Mayor’s Office, Kim was suffering severe chills and his wife called 911 for an ambulance. He was released and is resting at home.
“They made me promise to stay home today,” Kim was quoted as saying in the release.
The mayor was diagnosed with walking pneumonia in early May.
Kim, 78, had a heart attack, his fifth, in late April.
According to the Mayor’s Office, he was looking at the preparations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster recovery center at the Keaau High School gym on Thursday night.
The facility opened its doors to the public Friday morning.
