During the week of June 11-17, Hawaii Island police arrested 27 motorists for DUI. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and one was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 10; Puna, eight; South Hilo, six; and South Kohala, three.
So far this year, there have been 542 DUI arrests compared to 535 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.3 percent.
There have been 593 major accidents so far this year compared to 655 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.5 percent.
There have been 15 official traffic fatalities so far this year, compared to 20 fatalities at the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 25 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
