During the week of July 9-15, Hawaii Island police arrested 14 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, eight; South Hilo, South Kohala and Puna, two each.
So far this year, there have been 628 DUI arrests compared to 626 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.3 percent.
There have been 674 major accidents so far this year compared to 736 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.4 percent.
As of Monday, there have been 18 official traffic fatalities, compared to 20 fatalities at the same time last year, a decrease of 10 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
