Mariah Bath, longtime quilter and renowned quilt teacher, will teach a Sylvia Pippin class on tropical florals sashiko and applique quilting this weekend at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

The workshop is slated for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday (July 21).

Bath also will lead the class on a walk-through of the 2018 “Quilts in the Forest — Where the Path May Lead” quilt show, the second biennial quilt show at VAC.

Julie Williams, VAC board member and nature trail guide, will take the class on a tour of the old-growth forest trail at Niaulani, introducing participants to a number of native plants, which can be seen in the quilts in this year’s show.

The cost of the class is $65 or $60 for VAC members. Those attending are asked to bring a lunch.
