Police say three individuals are in custody who they think may have provided assistance to Justin Waiki while he was on the run after Waiki shot and killed Officer Bronson Kaliloa on July 17.
According to a police log, 31-year-old Joey Ikaika Camacho of Keaau was arrested at 4:45 a.m. today and charged with resisting an order to stop, promoting a dangerous drug, drug paraphernalia, criminal property damage and driving without a license.
Police say 26-year-old Pomaikai Martin and 27-year-old Latoya Poepoe-Spalding, both of King’s Landing, were arrested for outstanding warrants this morning at 6:25 a.m. after patrol officers responded to a tip about their location within a vehicle at Bayfront.
The log shows Martin was charged with contempt of court.
There was no immediate information on charges for Poepoe-Spalding.
“All three had outstanding warrants for them. But Martin and Poepoe-Spalding, when they were located in a vehicle, there was drug paraphernalia that was observed from the outside, so they may have more to answer for with that. We’re working on a search warrant on the vehicle,” Capt. Randall Medeiros of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Division said.
Medeiros said 47-year-old Shaun Candaroma of Hilo has been interviewed by detectives.
“He had no outstanding warrants and we weren’t looking to arrest him,” Medeiros said.
All four were the subject of a police bulletin released Monday.
“At this stage of the investigation, none of these four have been arrested for hindering prosecution, at this point,” Medeiros said.
Police say the investigation is in its early stages and police want to talk to a number of people, some as witnesses and others as potential suspects.
