A man authorities say was probably in his 50s was burned to death, and according to a written Fire Department statement, the cause is “misuse of accelerants.”
Eight fire units, plus police and body removal, responded to the 1:50 p.m. report of a fire on Komohana Street between Ponahawai Street and Hulali Place.
The first unit arrived at the scene four minutes later to find the man “engulfed in flames” and dead on arrival, and “minimal vegetation in (a) drainage ditch charred.”
The fire was under control at 1:57 p.m. and extinguished a minute later.
