The 27-year-old firefighter had contended at the Volcano Rainforest half-marathon before, and Saturday she was the first women to cross for the first time, finishing in 1:32.49.

When McMahon isn’t running around Volcano, she can be seen running up Waianuenue Avenue – rain or shine – with Hilo High’s cross-country team
