Community meetings on the status of Kilauea’s lower East Rift Zone eruption will now be held every other week at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pahoa High School cafeteria, starting Sept. 5, the county said Monday.
The Disaster Recovery Center, which was shut down last week because of Hurricane Lane’s effects on East Hawaii, has been reopened. The DRC is open weekdays, 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Pahoa Community Center until Sept. 12, the deadline to register for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Association.
As of Saturday, 2,773 individuals have applied for assistance from FEMA, with $8,376,728.29 in funding approved.
