Instead of the ultimate short week of football game prep, Kamehameha and Hilo won’t have any game prep at all.
With Tropical Storm Olivia barreling toward the islands, the BIIF postponed four volleyball matches Tuesday and canceled practices in all sports, and edict that also caused the league to nix Thursday’s night football game at Wong Stadium.
The Warriors and Vikings would have had only two practices this week to prepare, so the game was rescheduled for Oct. 19 during an open week after the regular season.
Further postponements could be announced as the storm progresses, but for now four volleyball matches that were on tap for Tuesday were pushed back: Hilo at Laupahoehoe; Waiakea at Honokaa; Keaau at Hawaii Prep; St. Joseph at Makua Lani. The Cougars and Ka Makani will meet Oct. 1
Also, Wednesday’s volleyball match between Parker and Kamehameha was moved to Sept. 24.
The football open week comes during a two-week break between the end of the regular season and the Division I and II finals, slated for Oct. 26-27. Kealakehe and Konawaena also are scheduled to play Oct. 20 during the open week – Hurricane Lane postponed their Aug. 24 matchup – meaning each of last season’s four BIIF finalists will be in action.
Should the storm cause football postponements this weekend, there also is an open week the first weekend of November. The HHSAA playoffs start Nov. 9-10.
Little League meeting slated
Hilo Little League will be holding it annual membership meeting and election of officers at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Kawananakoa Hall.
