KAILUA-KONA — As of press time Tuesday night, the search continued for a man wanted in connection with a Monday morning assault that left two people hospitalized.
Hawaii Police Department officers along with the Special Enforcement Unit are in pursuit of 34-year-old Drew Ikaika Camacho. The search stems from an assault that occurred Monday morning at a home on Kaiminani Drive. According to police, the suspect allegedly came to the house without the knowledge of the residents, a 42-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man. The three are acquaintances, and Camacho had previously been to the residence.
Maj. Robert Wagner said Camacho apparently assaulted the woman before the man intervened and was also assaulted. The woman reportedly suffered injuries to her head while the man suffered injuries to his head and shoulder area.
The victims were taken to Kona Community Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. On Tuesday, Wagner said, they were expected to be OK.
Police say Camacho was last seen leaving the scene in a black 1998 Honda Civic sedan that has graffiti writing on it. A second person was with the suspect but stayed inside the vehicle.
“Only the suspect participated in the assault,” Wagner said.
Camacho’s vehicle was found Tuesday morning on Ahikawa Street, off Highway 190.
On Tuesday, Wagner would not comment on what instigated the assault.
Camacho is considered armed and dangerous and police caution the public not to approach him, but instead to call 911 if he is seen.
