A pedestrian died after being struck by a car early this morning on Kuakini Highway, south of Higashihara Park in Kailua-Kona.

He has been identified as 26-year-old Oliver Seitz of Holualoa.

Officers responding to a 4:34 a.m. call determined that a 2005 northbound Toyota sedan hit Seitz, who police say was walking on the road in the driver’s lane. Seitz was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:40 a.m.

The driver of the Toyota, a 58-year-old Kailua-Kona man, was treated and released at Kona Community Hospital.

Police don’t think speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Officer Kimo Keliipaakaua at 326-4646 ext. 229.

Seitz’s death is the 27th official traffic fatality this year compared to 28 at this time last year.
