During the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4, Hawaii Island police arrested 18 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, nine; South Hilo, three; Ka‘u, Puna and South Kohala, two each.
So far this year, there have been 931 DUI arrests compared to 974 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.4 percent.
There have been 989 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,154 during the same period last year, a decrease of 14.3 percent.
To date, there have been 27 official traffic fatalities, compared to 28 official fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 7.1 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
