Koki Takehara, a professional Japanese calligraphy artist, uses a 60-pound brush to draw the character “Kizuna,” which represents bonds or connections between people, on Sunday during the annual Bodhi Day service at Sangha Hall in Hilo. The event was sponsored by the Big Island Buddhist Federation and hosted by Taishoji Soto Mission. Playing drums is Chad Nakagawa of Taishoji Taiko.
