Carol June Callison Ewing, 71, of Hilo died Nov. 1 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hammond, Ind., she was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship, a parent community networking facilitator at Hilo Union School, proprietor of The Plant Lady: Green Plant Rentals, secretary for Indiana State Police Department, clerk typist at Kulani Correctional Facility, and an avid crafter and gardener. George Gomes Sr., 78, of Hilo, formerly of Honokaa, died Nov. 17 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honkaa, he was a retired plantation worker for Paauilo Experiment Station, worked for UAL catering at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, and was a lifetime cowboy.
