Zachary “Zack” Bradford Gibson, 52, of Honokaa died Nov. 4 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born at the former Subic Bay U.S. Naval Station, Olongapo, the Philippines, he was a Native Hawaiian farmer of medicinal plants for Pu‘u‘ala Farms and founder/owner of Kanaka Kava restaurant, a traditional awa bar in Kona. Masamori “Masa” Sunahara, 93, of Papaikou died Sept. 7 at Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Ninole, and lived in Hakalau then Papaikou for many years. He was a heavy equipment operator training supervisor with the former Hilo Coast Processing Co. and member of Hilo Coast United Church of Christ, Papaikou Senior Softball Team and Papaikou Kumiai.
