In the days preceding Christmas, the DOT anticipates approximately 50,000 outbound travelers will pass through Hawaii airports. Because of the high volume of traffic, passengers are strongly encouraged to avoid parking at the airport whenever possible, because parking space is limited.
Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport has 1,475 public parking spaces, and Hilo International Airport only can accommodate 475 vehicles.
Travelers also are advised to arrive at the airport early to allow them time to pass through security.
