Dr. William R. Miller will present the workshop “Listening Well: The Art of Empathic Understanding,” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, in Campus Center Room 301.
“The interpersonal skill of empathy is a learnable way to communicate and is widely applicable in our everyday lives,” says Miller. “It is well-specified, real, and reliable.”
This workshop will teach and provide opportunities to practice understanding using a “tell-show-try” approach.
Miller is emeritus distinguished professor of psychology and psychiatry at the University of New Mexico. He has focused on the development, testing and dissemination of behavioral treatments. With 45 years of research experience in treatment, he has served as principal investigator for numerous grants and contracts, served as a consultant to many organizations including the U.S. Senate, the World Health Organization, the National Academy of Sciences, and the National Institute of Health, and has published more than 50 books.
Cost for the workshop is $125 for regular tuition and $75 for students and seniors. Six continuing education unit credits are available.
