During the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3, Hawaii Island police arrested 16 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, six; South Kohala, four; Puna and South Hilo, three apiece.
So far this year, there have been 93 DUI arrests compared to 96 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.1 percent.
There have been 82 major accidents so far this year compared to 94 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.8 percent.
There have been two official traffic fatalities this year, to date, the same as at this time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
